Building Knowledge for AI-Augmented Workplaces

Artificial intelligence is transforming organizations in ways that reach far beyond traditional HR processes. From recruitment to skills development and employee well-being, AI is shifting HR from an administrative function to a strategic partner in organizational decision-making.

Our research initiative examines this transformation through an interdisciplinary lens, developing frameworks and foresight methodologies that help organizations navigate AI adoption responsibly. We study how HR leaders and visionaries anticipate and shape the evolving role of AI in managing flexible, hybrid, and globally distributed work.

The future of HR will not simply mean managing people through algorithms. Rather, it will orchestrate employment relationships in AI-augmented work environments where people can perform and feel a sense of belonging.

Core Research Questions

  • What does responsible, human-centric HRM look like over the next decade?
  • How can AI support team growth in competence, autonomy, and community?
  • What new hybrid roles will emerge at the intersection of AI and human work?
  • How do organizations ensure AI reflects human values and needs?

Three Interconnected Research Themes

Our work spans multiple organizational levels, from individual employee experiences to strategic governance frameworks.

Employees

Understanding AI's impact on employee well-being, autonomy, and workplace experience. We examine how intelligent systems can detect stress, support collaboration, and strengthen cross-cultural understanding while preserving human agency.

Managers

Exploring evolving leadership practices in AI-augmented organizations. We study how managers can use AI as a learning partner rather than a control system, and what new competencies leaders need to orchestrate human-AI collaboration.

Strategy & Governance

Developing organizational frameworks for responsible AI adoption aligned with the EU AI Act and Finnish national guidelines. We examine how risks around privacy, transparency, and algorithmic bias can serve as catalysts for building more inclusive workplaces.
